Hello and welcome to the forums icon_smile.gif

When posting a new question, please start a new topic.

If you add some more info about how you want this to work, we can probably offer suggestions.

Usually, a programmer does not calculate the RBA - it is handled internally and the records are read sequentially.

Keep in mind that as records are added to the ESDS, they are added at the end with no regard to values in the record. Calculating the RBA of a record added to the file might be quite out of reach.

FYI, the first record in an ESDS is at RBA zero. The second record is at RBA (0 + record-length) and so on. . .

There is a type of file called a Relative-Record DataSet which may be easily read directly if the "record nujmber" is known.
