Hi,

can u tel me, how the records are actually stored in IMS DB? Whether the single record (all the appropriate segments) present in SINGLE line, or segments are placed in one another lines?????

Each segment occurances are stored in one line.

for example, i've 3 segments as vendor, item and location( consider vendor is root seg, item and location as its sub levels).
For example take the value as vendor = vendor1, item = item1 and location = loc1.

so u r trying to say, it ll place as

vendor1
item1
loc1

right???
else, whether it ll place such as,

vendor1item1loc1

Segments belonging to each other in one hierarchy are called a logical dabaserecord. Why would you want to know how they are physically stored? Do you want to know about control area and control interval icon_rolleyes.gif

just to explore mose on that part, thats why i wanted to know, how exactly the records are stored in physically???

tell me more abt CA and CI???

DBD definition of a database. If VSAM is used CA and CI are involved.

You might also explore.....see sticky in this forum.
