Hi,
I am trying to automate sending email, with a file as attachment to certain users. But the size of the file can vary from 6 to 10GB.
In that case, what should be the best way to do it.
Can we zip the file on mainframe and then send it as an attachment in the mail ? |

you can try zipping and attaching
But the preferred option: Zip and FTP or NDM and then send the file location in email |

That is a manual procedure. I need it to be done thru JCL .. i mean creating the file on mainframe, zipping it and sending it thru email to the required users.
normally if the file size would not have been large, we could have done it easily, but due to the large size i am not able to send it in the email. |

I didntt mean any manual process, all the options are done thru JCL
If you want you can try zipping file and send it by email using JCL. THere are utilities like PKZIP to zip the file. Again like if it's huge file there might a concern sending it thru email. |

Hello,
If your file may multiple gig, your e-mail system will very likely not handle it. Most e-mail systems have a limit to attachment size.
I believe a better solution would be to zip the file on the mainframe and then ftp it.
Another choise, but less attractive, is splitting the file on the mainframe, zipping the split files and send them as attachments to separate e-mails.
Again, it it may be that large, i'd recommend an "other than e-mail" approach.
Whiatver approach you use, i'd recommend using the same method for both large and small files to reduce the number of confusions/errors. |
