Our files are HSM managed. A couple of weeks ago through a miscommunication 3000 3490 tapes were destroyed. Luckily it wasn't in out production environment but we lost valid data.
There's nothing we can do about that now but we have a ton of datasets in MIGRAT2 status that are on these tapes that are no longer available. Is there an easy way to remove these datasets from our catalogue and HSM ? |

Yeah, it rang a bell with me too, and I was just about to post the link to the original thread when I noticed I was too late.
If DELVOL PURGE doesn't work with the catalog, although I vaguely remember that it does - it's about 8 years since I last "lost" an ML2 tape, you could do a list of the datasets on the tape, and easily edit that list into HDELETE commands.
Might be an idea to do the list first before the DELVOL PURGE - just in case you do need to issue a couple of DELETE NOSCR commands |

OK, I did the delete purge but it comes back with
ARC0260I MIGRATION VOLUME D00012 ENTRY NOT DELETED - VALID DATA MAY EXIST ON VOLUME |

OK, I got it figured out. I did an hsend of 700 volumes to one dataset with all the datasets in MIGRAT2 status. Came out to be about 15000. Then I massaged that dataset with the hdelete command and used it as a sysin in a batch job. Then I took all the volumes and issued delvol purge in batch and was able to remove everything.
Thanks for the help guys !!! |
