Hello,

What should happen when there is a different number of records in the 2 files?

Which sort product does your location use?

I suspect it does matter. . .

Please post an example of file 1 with 5 records and file 2 with 7 records and show how your "overlay" would work.

When we see what you require, we will be better able to offer suggestions.

Keep in mind that while your question is completely clear to you, it may not be to everyone else icon_confused.gif

I have one file as file1 with data as

name phone# address city state
madhu
reddy
sudhi
sheny
nische

I have another file with file2 with data as

name phone# address city state
sirish
deepik
seeris
shtrny
ntytert

Now my requirement is i have to overlay the data of column name from file1 to file2.

Could anyone suggest me the right answer.

Thanks

Hello,

That's a start. From that data, please show what you want the output to look like.

You also did not post the data as requested. You need to show files with a different number of records.

It may help if you post what you need to do rather than how you want to accomplish it.
