Please DO NOT post attachments as many visitors to the forum have restrictions on being able to either open or download attachments.
This affects your responses to a problem, and also does not help other people who see a solution but not the problem.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Perhaps it is my interpretation of the wording of your request, but I somehow get the impression that you want Frank to do your work for you.
What you have already tried yourself, and what were the results of your tests. |

If the position 40 contains 2 and the position 7 contains 'R',
It has to read
Partition input-2 - Reference file.
Like this total 5 partition comparision file and
5 partition reference file .
But only one key file.
The position 7 contains only 'C' or 'R'.
Position 40 cantains only 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5. |

"mainframe professional",
Your requirement is not clear to me and your requirements seem to be getting more and more elaborate. I've showed you how to use the IFTHEN group trick to solve other requirements for this same type of input. I think you need to start spending some time working this stuff out for yourself.
You can find all of the DFSORT books at:
Use [URL] BBCode for External Links
For examples of the group trick, see the "Include or omit groups of records" and "Sort groups of records" Smart DFSORT Tricks in my "Tricks" paper:
www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/software/sort/mvs/tricks/
And you can find many, many examples of how to use DFSORT/ICETOOL on this help board and in the "Tricks" paper. |

Do keep in mind that some things take more than just a few minutes or hours to learn and/or figure out. |

Hello,
There is a bit of confusion here in addition to the actual sort question.

When you post info, copy/paste your info using the "Code" tab (at the top of the reply panel). This works well. Actually, it is better if things are not posted "thr attach".
Attach is best used when it is requested for some specific reason by someone who is trying to help. |

Exactly my point - I am one of those people that works in a relatively tight regulated web access environment.
I can not open or download attachments - so anyone who does post their problem using an attachment will not get any help from me because I will never know what the problem is. |
