//SYSUT2  DD  DSN=<dsn name>,
//             DISP=(,CATLG,DELETE),
//             SPACE=(CYL,(500,50),RLSE),MGMTCLAS=WORKM
//SYSPRINT DD  SYSOUT=*

From the message shown, you have SYNCSORT rather than DFSORT.

Change the PGM= to IEBGENER and try that, although some shops will default IEBGENER to ICEGENER (or the SYNCSORT equivilent).

Hello,

The WER message you posted may be found in the Syncsort documentation. If your organization is a licensed user, the documentatin is available for free.

Does this step use VSAM?

As far as I know, ICEGENER is a component of DFSORT rather than SYNCSORT which you have installed at your shop.

Hello,

Yes, if you are able to execute ICEGENER, it is most likely that the program name is an alias of Syncsort or possibly SYNCTOOL. No matter which, you most likely do not have the ICExxx modules as they are not delivered with Syncsort.

Many Syncsort sites do intercept simple IEBGENER copy jobs and substitute Syncsort dynamically as it will copy more efficiently than IEBGENER (the same is true of DFSORT as well).

If you get WERxxxx messages from a step, that step is most likely executing code from Syncsort.

The reason i asked about VSAM is that the "WER239A TYPE PARAMETER REQUIRED " message can relate to vsam. When i sent the earlier reply, i didn't have this available:
Quote:
WER239A TYPE PARAMETER REQUIRED
EXPLANATION: There was a VSAM input or output file but the TYPE
parameter was not specified. Or, an E15 or E32 exit routine is passing
all of the records to the sort/merge (no SORTIN/SORTINnn), but the
TYPE parameter was not specified on the RECORD control statement.

Good luck and we're here if there are questions icon_smile.gif

raam,

You are using Syncsort's SYNCGENR, not DFSORT's ICEGENER. I believe Syncsort ships ICEGENER as an alias for SYNCGENR.
