can we define

FILE SECTION.
FD COMMUTER-FILE-MST
RECORDING MODE IS V
RECORD CONTAINS 10 TO 50 CHARACTERS.
01 COMMUTER-RECORD-A PIC X(10).
01 COMMUTER-RECORD-B PIC X(50).


like this ie , with 'record contains contains close

FILE SECTION.
FD COMMUTER-FILE-MST
RECORDING MODE IS V
01 COMMUTER-RECORD-A PIC X(10).
01 COMMUTER-RECORD-B PIC X(50).

yes i tried both but my program is not working properly ..... at some where i stucked so i want an immediate answer

I use the later all the time without problems, can you define what you mean by "not working properly"?

Hello,

When something is "not working" it is a good practice to post what you want and what is actually happening. If the code will not compile, compiler messages should be posted. If it abends, abend information needs to be posted.

Posting your jcl and output messages is a good thing to do.

Depending on what is "not working", the FD may not even be part of the problem. . .

We're here when you post the info.
