1. what is the maximum length of the GDG name?
2. What is the maximum length of the PDS?
3. Is there any command to trap JCL error without submitting ? |

2) Three foot, two and three quarter inches, unless it's a PDSE
3) Well, if you don't submit the job, and this includes TYPRUN=SCAN, how you going to know it will not JCL error, unless of course you have a JCL scanning software package available at your site. |

In the case of a PDSE, it's 39.3700787 inches..... |

I was using the largest font size available when I typed in the name of the PDS  and measured its length. So that was the length of my PDS. As Bill Thompson has shown, the PDSE takes slightly less space than a PDS because it is self reorganising.  |

I think the max length for pds is 44(including the periods)..
