1. what is the maximum length of the GDG name?
2. What is the maximum length of the PDS?
3. Is there any command to trap JCL error without submitting ?

2) Three foot, two and three quarter inches, unless it's a PDSE

3) Well, if you don't submit the job, and this includes TYPRUN=SCAN, how you going to know it will not JCL error, unless of course you have a JCL scanning software package available at your site.

In the case of a PDSE, it's 39.3700787 inches.....

I was using the largest font size available when I typed in the name of the PDS icon_biggrin.gif and measured its length. So that was the length of my PDS. As Bill Thompson has shown, the PDSE takes slightly less space than a PDS because it is self reorganising. icon_wink.gif

I think the max length for pds is 44(including the periods)..
