It would be nice if someone could help me understand what exactly is the purpose of the NEWC transaction in CICS. To be more precise, what are the purposes in which a NEWC will be used?
Eg: As per my understanding NEWC can be used to refresh the load and listing for XPEDITOR.
Please let me know other situations where NEWC should be used.
Thanks & Regards,
Ramya |

Hi Ramya,
I too have this doubt for a long time, thanks for brought this.
In my understanding NEWC is used only for XPEDITOR.
I want to add one more point to this, what is the use of LRPL and what way it is different from the use of NEWC

Hi Ramya,
When a resident program is modified or relinked, it cannot be "refreshed" within CICS and retain residency. Program that are "Dynamic" and modified often are good candidates for residency.
When the program is NEWCOPY the previous resident copy is now non resident and new copy of the program is made available for execution.
In other words, the program is refreshed to show the current changes which may include size.
Hope it solves your query.
Thanks and Regard

Hi Chani,
Thanks for the response.
I've some doubts again:
1. Does your reply mean that, 'if the program is already in the region, and if any changes are made to that, we need to do a NEWC. But if there is no program previously and if we load a new program for the first time, we don't need to do a NEWC'. Is my understanding correct?
2. What do you mean by dynamic programs? Do you mean dynamically linked programs?
Please clarify.
Thanks,
Ramya |

hi ramya,
i am surendranath
newc is used to replace the old version by new version that means
if you are done some changes to the online program the system con't under stand your changes ,so that if do NEWC (MEANS NEWCOPY ) the system replaces new version by current version you have modified . newc is the command is used for telling to the system to replace old version by new version that u have modified if u have not done this ., it will show -805 sql code in cics region if u are entering into cics region.if u done NEWC it will not show that error
i think it is use full for u to under stand bettter.

Hi Surendranath,
I have a small doubt here.

What my understanding is, we will not get an error, but simply the old version will run.
What you suggest? |
