Could you give your definition of "VSAM"?

I am developing a sample project which seems like a mini bank system. I want to use VASM KSDS as the storage of account information. Before this I an trying to get some overview about VSAM, about vsam 's benefit using in banking system.

You decided that you want to use VSAM, something you know nothing about and now you want justification for your uninformed decision?
Never-the-less, VSAM will work just fine, KSDS, ESDS, RRDS etc. Something a little more recoverable like DB2 would be better, but for many years VSAM has been the backbone for many banks.
