Hello,

It would help if you were a bit more specific. Your question is much like "provide me basics of COBOL" or "mainframe".

From what you've posted, your best bet is to go to the Computer Associates web site and look at the CA-1 information there.

When you have questions about what you've read, you might then ask them here.

Even better, if you register with CA for CA-1 product training, then I'm sure they'll provide you with all the information you need to know, as well as all of the product manuals as you requested in your other post.

CA-1 becomes part of your system software. It manages your inventory of tapes/carts/etc. Part of the inventory is a scratch pool and part is for tapes in use (there's a lot more to it, but that is a short version).

When a job needs a tape, CA-1 tells the operator or the robot which tape to mount on which drive. The programmer does not need to do anything to get this to happen.

If you are not part of the Operations group, you might talk with them or the storage management people at your location for info on how CA-1 is implemented there. If you need more details, SuperK's suggestion would be a very good way to go.

Please let us know if you have questions icon_smile.gif
