Is it possible to check that a perticular job has run today or not, and what is the return code of the job. I have hundreds of job running daily and i have to check daily whether the jobs ran or not and what is the return code of the jobs. I want to create a sort of report which will list down all the jobs which ran today along with their return codes. |

First question - where are you going to get this information from? |

I have schedular installed. I can see all the jobs in the sar after the job execcution is over. But i dont want to go manually in the sar for 100's of jobs and check return code of each jobs. Now u will say i can run a sarbch utility to know whether a job is there in the sar for today's run or not. But sometimes the job takes time to go to the sar, and in that case it will fail. I want to know if there can be an utility which can tell me using ca7 that which all jobs ran from the list of the jobs that i provide.
Is it possible?
Thanks. |

The definitive answer would be using SMF records. Type 30 is for job information and should contain the start and end times of jobs, plus return code and abend information.
Do you have SAS there ? |

Hi !
I guess there is some confusion here...
SAR is a report management system ( sysout archiving and distribution )
and it hs no relation whatsoever to any scheduling product/application
if Your plan has a certain schedule and the error/exception alert system has been setup in the right way You do not have any need to worry :-)
Your job has run with success, You will only get a notification in case of troubles ....
I would rather be notified in case of errors than in case of success, the ratio should be more favorable
I do not know Your job description / role in Your IT organization , but for such items You shold search for cooperation from the operations team,
and there are usually some predefined templates for it, since this type of request is normal in all the IT departments around the world

Then use SAS to read the SMF type 30 records and extract the information from there.
The info that you need from the type 30 is quite easily found.
Might post some code later if I can still find it. |
