HI ALL,

We know that for generating reports using FOCUS,we need a master file, data file and FOCEXEC.But i have no idea regarding these.IS it possible to create the master file and the data file in an ordinary PDS.

Could anyone help me in this?

Thanks and regards,

Naga.

Hello,

Your best bet is to contact Information Builders, Inc (IBI) as they are the vendor for the FOCUS line of products.

All of the material is availble from them for licensed users. The material is copyfight material and may not be posted or linked to in this forum.

You might create your FOCEXECs (which is where you write your codeusing the programming language - it can do much more than merely reporting) and some data files in an ordinary pds, but i don't believe you'll be able to use a pds for the master file. Remember that FOCUS can report against your existing files and most of them are not in pds format.

Naga,

You can create MFD in a PDS and use sequential file, VSAM file or GDG for master file.

Hi Dinesh,

Thanks for your response.
Actually the MFD contains the organisation of the data contained in the data file wright? Can we manually insert datas into a ps file and take it as a data file?

Thanks and regards,
Naga.

Yes, you can insert data manually and use MFD to retrieve them in focexec.

Thanks Dinesh,

I would also like to get clarified some of my doubts.hope you would guide me in this.

Is there any coding specifications(like in COBOL we start coding in Area A) in creating the master file and coding the FOCEXEC? Also i find difficulty in creating the JCL to submit this FOCEXEC.

Would you please look into this?

Thanks and regards,
Naga.

Naga,

I haven't seen any coding specifications till now for creating mfd or focexec.

Please paste your query/code so that all can have a look at it and advice accordingly.
