Delete function on files not working

Delete function is not working for me when i try to delete a record in ksds using index in dynamic mode.Could u plz any of u help me with this by giving me a proper codings.

I find that hard to believe, did you try the DELETE verb?
Was the file open in I-O mode?
Did you define a two byte file status for this file?
Did you define an area for the six byte VSAM return code?
