I know there is a resolution to this task I am not familiar with how to ?stack? or concatenate ICETOOL commands.
The scenario is this, based on the value of column three of a control card (which can contain the value of a ?d? (daily) or ?w? (weekly)).
I need to generate two files (one of which I realize will be null, based on the value of column three).
Also I need to set a return code to allow/disallow subsequent jobsteps from executing or not executing. I would assume that for the daily (one return code) and for the weekly (another return code). |

Bill,
I can't figure out what you need from what you've said. Could you please elaborate. Examples of the records involved would help. It's not clear to me what you mean by "generate two files". What do they look like?

Based on what? Set to what for what reason? |

The task has been assigned to another person. But I will try to explain the task as I understand it.
A file would be input to the Sort (ICETOOL) step. A control card would be input also.
On the control card in the third position would be either a "D" or "W", based on this value the Sort (ICETOOL) step would have to set a return code(based on the value in column three) to determine file processing in subsequent steps.
I am sure I will have other questions for you sir. |

Ok, I'll pass on this one since it's still unclear to me what's needed and you don't need it anymore. |

Bill,
Look at Frank's sort tricks, to set a return code if the file is empty or not.
You might be able to infil omit the D record and the count (?) could return a cc of 12 if the input record contained the D and 0 if it contained the W.
I think that is what you are asking for, but you will have to play with it to get it right.
