Hi,
I have get solution for compress dataset by using IDCAMS utility.
But when i use it for compressing pds dataset that perticular dataset's member is now dissapears.
Why members are dissapears, can you tell me please.
By using IEBCOPY we can also compress pds dataset.but by using same i can't compress ps dataset .
Can you help me about same. |

Hello,
Maybe it is just a typo, but PS datasets cannot be compressed - doesn't have aything to do with the utility - they just are not compressable..
Why are you trying to compress a pds with IDCAMS? You probably specified SCRATCH which will delete members.
IEBCOPY is used to compress partitioned datasets in batch.
Who came up with the idea that you have to use IDCAMS? |

Hello,
One more thought - until you are comfortable with pds compression, i'd suggest you make a copy of the original so that you do not lose any (more?) members. . . If you are going to do a compress "in place" you want a copy anyway. |

Maybe because you are using the wrong utility?

Hi Bill,
My guess is that the job is set up to SCRATCH members and COMPRESS afterwards. SCRATCH would surely make some/all of the members go away.
I'm curious who provided the direction that the compress shold be done via IDCAMS. . .
Of course, if this is a training exercise. . . . |

Maybe he means "Free space release" for PS datasets. But surely if SMS is properly configured there would no need for that.
Need any storage guru's out there ? |

Hello,
For my $.02, we need a clearer requirement definition. Not sure we have enough info to effectively use a guru |
