Hi,
I have a dataset that is full in allocation space. I need to increase the primary or the secondary space dynamically. That is i don't want to delete the dataset and then recreate the same..
please let me know how to do this... |

Hello,
Have you compressed the dataset?
If not, you can use TSO 3.4 to list the dataset(s) and place a Z in the command area beside the dsn.
If your pds has not been compressed, it will "fill up" even though there is much unused space.
If it really is full, one way to "expand" it is to allocate a new dataset with the increased space (be sure to allocate enough directory blocks as well as primary/secondary space). Copy all of the existing members to the new dataset. Rename the original dataset to another name (this is to have a backup). Rename the new dataset to the original dsn. |

No, you can't to my knowledge.
That's why I always use PDSE |

hi,
Thanks for the repiles....
But the PDS's I specify are the Production libs and they cannot be re-created.
Please lemme know if there is any other way to do this... |

Well, they have to be recreated. Otherwise you can not add any more members to them.
Dick has given you the only option that I know about.
Not only is it the easiest way, it is also the safest way, as you retain the original file as a backup.
Only a PDSE will automatically add directory blocks as and when it needs tham. |

Why not ?
it looks like You have an organizational issue ...
Every organization has planned service outages for :
hardware maintenance/upgrade
software maintenance/upgrade
application maintenance/upgrade/recovery
database maintenance/reorganization/recovery
and also for :
library maintenance
i' s a problem which can be solved with just a little, very little, planning
