Hi,
Please could someone tell me what exactly do we mean by force completion of a job?
Regards,

Thanks, the process is clear to me.
But then we would have to be sure that force completion of the jobs have no impact downstream.
I mean if we have an output file which is being used in a downstream job (which is triggered)...then we just cant force complete this initial job, can we?
...so I think proper analysis is required before force completion and we just cant force complete a job without knowing its impact downstream.
Please could someone throw more light. |

Hello,
Production jobs should be under the care and feeding of the Scheduling and/or Operations people.
I can think of no good reason for anyone else to issue a "force complete".
Yes, analysis is required for this and any other exception situation.
Often, a "Force Complete" is used to re-sync the scheduling software with what has actually happened on the computer.
For a better understanding of how/if this is used at your location, i'd suggest talking with the Scheduling and/or Operations people. |

force completion is typically done when there is a Job dependency.
If the successor job has a dataset dependency, and the dataset is getting created in the current job, you better analyse before issuing a FC for the current job.
But if the job just updates some VSAM files, or Updates the database and abends in case of no Inputs, you can issue a FC with a little analysis.. |

Hello,
Yes, i agree with ballalsachin in that analysis should be done prior to issuing a Force Complete.
If, after analysis, the determination is made that a Force Complete is needed, it should be coordinated with the Scheduling/Operations people.
Making those kind of changes outside of the Production area causes more problems than it fixes. If they do it, they will have a record and there should be no later surprises or confusion. |
