if signout = 'y' then other can't retrive the program. It gives a control on the element with whose ID it is being signout.Unless n untill that element is being sign in with the same id no one take control on that element. You can sign in in 2 ways...one in which u give the control of that element to other person or simple signin, that is moving the element to the endevor. When the element is being moved the status shows move for that element and after that one can retrive or when just sign in with no id then you can retrive the same element.

We can retrieve the element even when it is signed out by some one else by specifying Override signout = 'Y'

Thanks

One can retrieve the element even if signout=y, if you sepcify the parameter Override Signout = y.

This is option is required because someone mighthave already retreieve the element for changing it. If any other person tries to retrieve the same element for another change, System will let you know that this element already signed out to some X. You can coordinate with that guy to include your changes.

If ur intention of retrieval is just to study the program, you can retrieve the element by sepcifying the parameter Override Signout = y.

One can still retrieve an element which was signed out by somebody by OVERRIDE SIGNOUT =N .But here after retrievel and making changes to that element one can't add back to test or qual.

If one intends to do a modification of an element which was signed out by sombody else;one can either SIGN IN to take control of that element .Then retrieve it with override sign out Y or N .After modification could add/UPdate back successfully.

Another scenario is with just OVERRIDE SIGNOUT =Y can take the control of the element which was signed out by somebody else. This could be later Added/Updated after modification.

Needless to say it all depends on the level of authortiy one have in Endevor too..Its better to get in touch with the shop's stanadards in doing this and adhere to that..
