I have a GDG with max limit as 10 generations. I received a requirement where the GDG base needed to opened for update purposes (I-O mode for all the existing generations).
Though I have not tried this till now. Do you have any implications when we do this.
Thanks all,

Murali,
In JCL, if you are going to give the I-O GDG file name as filename.G0001V00 ,then i believe the file name or generation name will be the same.
Corrections are welcomed |

Hi,
GDGs are similar to normal datasets.
In the JCL you can specify the GDG with (0) for the current dataset and open in I-O mode in the program.
I think it should work..
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks. |

Hello,
The previous replies do not answer the original question. . .
I seem to recall a similar thread recently about a problem witn i-o and concatenated datasets (specifying the gdg base is an implicit concatenation).
If my memory is correct (and sometimes is not , there was a problem gong to the second file.
I'd suggest creating a new gdg base for testing, catalog 3 versions, and give it a try.
We'll be here to hear how it goes and offer suggestions |
