why we give S9(4) COMP for Length?

Will you please give me the answer of why we give

PIC S9(4) COMP for LENGTH and

PIC S9(8) COMP for RCODE ?

I can only guess that the length is a smaller number that the rcode.....

Hello,

Please post the actual code you have questions about. Do you mean parameter LENGTH? Are you using Oracle?

Simply said, we use those definitions because that is the way those "controls" were defined when they created. When one uses things created by others, we use them the way the author delivered them.

Please let us know if you'd like any other info.

In the CICS forum I assumed CICS, length used to be all a half word - until the flength showed up and the return code quite often had 3 bytes in it.
