Hello,
PS (Physical Sequential) is a QSAM file.
ESDS (Entry Sequence Data Set) is a VSAM file.
Is this what you are looking for? If not please clarify. |

Dick is right
P.S. Files are Flat files where as ESDS are created with Index which can be accessed by RBA(relative Byte address)
if someone wants to add more |

Hi Dick... I meant a Physical Deletion of the records in ESDS.
Anyway it is always possible to just copy the records you want in a new file with same attribute. |

PS AND ESDS both are sequential files
but eds have the alternate index and ps have no alternate index
ps file is use for backup purpose it residing on tape
and esds file vsam file it residing on disk,
In esds there is control field for storing information of free space and about LRECL of same record i.e.CIDF AND RDF
There is no control information in PS file
In ESDS the term CI means control interval comes :the CI same like BLOKE SIZE that use for transfer the i/o information
In ps there is no blocksize
