I need to know the when was a VSAM file last modified? In file aid,I can only find the file Modification date.I want to know when was it last modified and by which TSO ID? Kind of,the information found for members of a dataset? Also a question occuured to me what about the same information for a sequential file(PS)?

Hello,

Talk with your system support people and ask if they have anything available to do this by processing SMF records. Many sites have such tools for problem resolution. What should be available is opens and closes on the files by what job or person as well as a lot of other info.

So do you mean we have to ask the system support people everytime we need such a information.Don't we have any simple option to do so?

Hello,

No, you shouldn't have to ask them each time.

Hopefully, they can provide you with JCL/control statements (i.e. sas) that you would customize for dataset name(s) and the date(s) you are interested in. You will want to quailfy your request because the volume of data in SMF is quite large. By processing only the dsn(s)/date(s) or even user(s)/job(s) you will get the info you need and bypass the "clutter".

"They" will also appreciate not having to run this each time it is needed. icon_smile.gif
