Accessing GDGs from CICS program

Hi Friends,

I have a requirement to access members of a GDG from an online program. I guess it is possible, as CICS programs can access VSAM & Flat files both.

But there is a issue; I will explain with example:

In Apr, 07 the online program needs to access 3 members of GDG (of Jan, Feb & Mar months)

In May, 07 the online program needs to access 4 members of GDG (of Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr months)

I don't know how this can be achieved as to access any file (or member of GDG :? ) , it should be defined in FCT. Or is there a special way in which CICS handles GDG?

Please shed some light on this issue.

Is there some reason that the CICS program MUST access 3 generations of the gdg?

From what you've described, it may be more straight-forward to have a scheduled batch process that runs each quarter to create a file with the data from the needed 3 months. That file could then be used in CICS. If you made this a vsam file multiple CICS users could access it easily.
