| I would like to sort a sequential file based on a key value. Say the key field in in column 82 and the key length is 30. what is the syntax of the sort command? Is it SORT POSITION, LENGTH? |

here i assumed that key field is in character format & u want to sort the file in ascending order. |

If you're not familiar with DFSORT and DFSORT's ICETOOL, I'd suggest reading through "z/OS DFSORT: Getting Started". It's an excellent tutorial, with lots of examples, that will show you how to use DFSORT, DFSORT's ICETOOL and DFSORT Symbols. You can access it online, along with all of the other DFSORT books, from:
