I have added some additional VSAM buffer pools to one of my IMS/DC regions. I have retsarted (Warm) the IMSplex and use BMC Mainview to look over the VSAM buffer pools. I have defined 74 pools of different ID's and both MainView and the IMS Monitor only show me 55 of them.

Since the IMS region started with out incident I'm assuming (and have reviewed) my DFSVSMxx member is coded correctly. These pools are all define LOCAL. There should be enought space the CF structure to deal with them (Defined Policy size of 1536K).

Since these are define in my test region (not a lot of activity), I'm not sure how IMS is building these. Is it that the missing ones are only built when needed? Can I be missing some sort of limiting parm? Current size is 33,378K. In all of my reading I have not seen any kind of maximum number of pool definitions.

Looking for suggestions...

The number or VSAM Pools is limited to 16.
However you may define many DBD/DSG's to a specific Pool ID and that Pool ID may define many subpools sizes. Jr. counted the number of DBD/DSG's and disregarded the PoolID count.

Resolved....

Hi Pete,

I'm not a system admistrator but may be this will help. Found "Within each VSAM buffer pool, there can be as many as 22 subpools" in this manual. There may be a lot more of interest. In this bookshelf you may find many manuals discussing IMS. Also follow the link in my signature and search for "vsam buffer pool".
