Hi,

Do we have any kind of chance to compress the volume size through JCL? We are using few private volumes to store some files. But here one file is huge in size needs 5250 cylinders space this includes Primary and secondary extents. So we are using two volumes to store this file (one volume for overflow) but due to no contiguous space in two volumes some times we required with third volume. If we can compress the volume size we can get contiguous space. That?s why I was looking for JCL..

The other way what I am planning was to increase the Primary and decrease the secondary space. If the secondary amount is small we can get contiguous space and the complete primary space will reside in Vol and secondary in another volume I am not very sure whether this will work??

We have any other possibilities to place the complete file in two VOLUMES instead of using third volume????

We are using Device type is 3380 and the total available cyl per volume is 2655.

Thanks in advance
JR

Have you tried just putting this file in its own STGRP... then you dont have this issue of getting contiguous space. You can allocate the file size to the max of the volumes assigh to the group.
