What will happen if we give GO Back instead of Stop run in a cobol program which is not called by other program.

Hello,

It should end normally. Many sites have a standard that says GOBACK should "always" be used.

GOBACK returns control to whatever initiated this "program". That could be a callling program or the operating system.

STOP RUN completely terminates the process.

No differences in case of stand alone program...

goback just returns control back from where it came(it may be OS or main program), where as 'stop run' directly returns control to OS.

It is recommended to use goback instead of stop run because it flushes the memory contents used by the program thus relieving the free space
