Class parameter in JCL

HI,

I want to Know about class parameter in detail(give me clear defenation).?

what is the purpose or importance of that?

The CLASS parameter is used to assign your job to a job processing
class. The class you should request depends on the characteristics
of the job and your installation's rules for assigning classes.
Consult your installation's operations staff or MVS System
Programmer for a list of valid job classes and their processing
characteristics.

Syntax:

CLASS=jobclass

where "jobclass" is a single alphanumeric character that specifies
the desired job class, in the range A-Z or 0-9.

Hello,

For proper CLASS use at your location, i'd recommend checking with your scheduling or data center support group. There may also be a document that describes class use.

Class use is nearly always controlled and they should be able to advise you on which class(es) to use. Usually there will be separate classes for short/long tests, various production types, and others. It is usually not a good idea to look at the initiators and just pick one that is open.
