Can anyone please tell me what is the difference between uncatalog and delete a dataset? |

Delete is physical deletion...ie actual deletion
but uncatalog is not physical deletion instead the entry is removed from the system catalog..the data 'll be there but we can't access it...we can access it only after cataloging the pda. |

The simple difference is that a cataloged dataset is identifiable from its catalog entry (which contains the volser) and an uncataloged dataset isn't (you need to know what its volser is).
Deleted means that the disk's vtoc entry is gone.
It is possible to have a cataloged dataset that has been deleted. |

Be aware that SMS datasets can not be uncatlg. |

You can still access an uncatalogued dataset, but you need to know and specify the VOL=SER=nnnnnn.
See the creating JES listings for that info.
Re earlier comment - there is nothing particular to PDS's here. |
