Hi,

I am generating a sequence number by a cobol program. I wan to apend the sequence number to a dataset created in the subsequent step.
I can't write a dynamic JCL to modify a skeleton jcl since my step takes a backup of a GDG generation.
While the dynamic JCl executes, new GDGs may be created and that would create a problem while refering the original GDG in the dynamic JCL.

Thanks,
~Vamsi

Can't you just open the dataset as mod and write the extra record on the end?

hi William Thompson,
Sorry to say....I don;t want to apend to the dataset.
I wan to apend the DSN name.

Suppose my cobol program is returning a RETURN CODE of 005,
The next step in the proc should be have a DSN as
XXXX.YYYY.ZZZZ.SEQ005.

You want to rename the base name for a gdg?

I'm thinking with the limitations you have specified, no.
