how to distinguish a vsam file from non vsam file by giving a looks to it?
suppose i have a dsn a.b.c.d(), what will be there inside bracket then only i know it is avsam file? |

I dont know, what you are talking about. If that is a GDG stuff, its not a VSAM.
Anyway... VSAM file would be associated with a DATA and INDEX component, if you are on 3.4 Screen... But the question is where you are actually looking at the file... |

VSAM might have the DATA & INDEX suffixes, but this is not a must.
GDG generation will have the GnnnVnnn suffix (but not the base GDG).
The best way, when in 3.4, is to shift right-left using PF10/PF11 (usually) and take a look at the DSORG column.
