When you can browse a dataset using the 3.4 option without specifing the volume, then the dataset is cataloged. u can directly delete using 'D' in TSO.

Look at the Volume when you open the dataset in 3.4. U will get a clue on this.

Go to ISPF OPTION 3.4 and give the dataset name. You will see a message "Dataset not in catalog" if it is not catalogued.

Surely we can delete a catalogued dataset. You can use the TSO DEL option or 'D' option.

Go to 3.4 option and list the dataset information. There u can check for the device type.

Thanks

Hi Nara Sridhar,

You can get all the info abt the dataset by giving ISPF cmd 'I' against the dataset.

Try to view/browse a dataset after using 3.4. If it is stored on a tape then you would not be able to browse or view the dataset. try doing that it would say "Tape not supported" .
