A GDG dataset is similar to our normal dataset except that it is tightly held together within a group.

When a dataset is uncataloged it means that the operating system will delete the entry pointing to the data set in the system or user catalog and the un-needed indexes. On the other hand when a dataset is catalogued the operating system is to place an entry pointing to the dataset in the system or user catalog.

An uncatloged dataset does not mean it has been wiped from the face of earth, it means that the dataset is kept. So find the uncatalog dataset and rename them and catalog them.
