Volume Spanning is a mechanism that allows a volume to include several physical hard disks.

Quote:
Volume Spanning is an Array that is written sequentially across more than one disk. Volume Spanning merely allows a given volume to be larger than any one disk - by itself, it does not provide any performance or redundancy benefits.
