Hi,

Is there a way to find properties of a GDG that is already present like whether it is created with Noscratch, empty or what is the maximum versions it can hold etc?

Thanks for your replies.

Thanks,
Anu Narayanan

Try FileAid Utility option F.FA;3.2

enter GDG base and press enter

Code:

GDG base dataset name: xxxx.TESTGDG

GDG dataset limit:     7         (Maximum number of generations, 1-255)

Active generations:    3         (Generations that are currently allocated)

Owner:

Expiration date:

Uncatalog options:     NOEMPTY   (EMPTY     = All generations are uncataloged
                                  NOEMPTY   = Oldest generation is uncataloged)
Scratch  options:      NOSCRATCH (SCRATCH   = Scratch when uncataloged
                                  NOSCRATCH = Uncatalog only)

You can also submit a job with

Code:

//LISTC1   EXEC PGM=IDCAMS
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//SYSIN    DD *
      LISTCAT ENT (xxxx.TESTGDG) ALL
/*

You would like it rather running a job... Although its same what Rasheed suggested.

Try it on your ISPF Panel.
Code:
TSO LISTC ENT('DATASET.NAME') ALL

Hi Rasheed,

The JCL worked out. But I am not sure as how to go in to file aid F.FA;3.2
I went to F for file aid from ISPF panel. But I am not able to get in to FA, i tried 3.2 alone after F, But i am not able to see any option for finding the properties of a GDG.

Thanks,
Anu Narayanan

Anu,

You will need to find in your shop where FileAid is located. Once you get to FileAid , select option '3' from 'Primary Option Menu' and then '2' from
' Extended Utilities' menu. Entering '2' will take you to 'Dataset Utility' menu. Here you can specify GDG base in 'Dataset or path ===>' and press enter.

Hoep this helps.
