Hi

If possible, go through the site for COMP related artcles, there are so many explanation about on this.

In General we use COMP data item for Reducing memory space while doing interbal computaion.

COMP is used to represent BINARY data item and in your case it occupies 2 bytes.

Now you come to know why we are Specifing COMP data item.

Thanks.
