| why only we can create at the max 9999 new GDGs and not above ? why this no. only, why it cant be more than that ? |

Are you talking abt maximum number of GDG versions that we can create??
Itz not 9999..but 255.

Probably because there are only 4 positions in the GDG dataset name to store the generation number.

No, it's 9999. See the z/OS V1R7.0 DFSMS Using Data Sets manual. |
