Hi Vijay,
With your reply, I understood that both are different. And I got the PDF doc for ICETOOL Utility from the link, you ve sent, but not for SYNCSORT.
But I wish to know the options/parameters available in the CONTROL CARDS for the SYNCSORT Utility.
Regards,
Anitha. |

Hi !
Have a look at BookManager. Also SyncSortParams are mostly the same
as Ibm-Sort-Parameters.

DFSORT is IBM's sort, merge and copy product. DFSORT includes the fully documented ICETOOL utility. DFSORT's books are freely available on the web at:
Use [URL] BBCode for External Links
Syncsort is Syncsort, Inc's sort, merge and copy product. Syncsort includes the undocumented SYNCTOOL utility. Syncsort's books are not available on the web.
If you or anyone else on this board would like some documents prepared by the DFSORT Team that describe what we see as the advantages of DFSORT over Syncsort, as well as considersations for migrating from Syncsort to DFSORT, send me an e-mail offline (yaeger@us.ibm.com). Please put "DFSORT" somewere in your Subject line to catch my attention.

Although the two products have many similarities, they also have many differences. DFSORT and ICETOOL have functions not found in Syncsort and SYNCTOOL such as PARSE, JFY, SQZ, NUM, etc. In addition, DFSORT's ICETOOL is fully documented whereas Syncsort's SYNCTOOL is undocumented. |

i have a small doubt.
i wrote a small program using ICETOOL to copy from one sequential file to another. The program worked quite fine. But when i checked out the DFSMSG i got the following message at the top
SYNCSORT FOR Z/OS 1.2.0.0RI U.S. PATENTS: 4210961, 5117495 (C) 2005 SYNCSO
PRODUCT LICENSED FOR Bank XXXX technology and operations, inc. LICE.
I want to know whether there is a tool named ICETOOL shipped with syncsort ? |

Syncsort has chosen to use an alias of 'ICETOOL' for SYNCTOOL. So when you invoke PGM=ICETOOL with Syncsort, you're using Syncsort's SYNCTOOL. When you invoke PGM=ICETOOL with DFSORT, you're using DFSORT's ICETOOL. |
