Hi all,

Is there any advantage in including the table dclgen that a cobol program accesses, but not using the dclgen variables?

I read from DB2 magazine that "The DB2 Precompiler uses the top part of the DCLGEN to validate the SQL syntax"..Is this true always?

Thanks in advance..

Yes it is required. Precompiler checks syntax of the queries based on the DCLGEN. For example if you have wrong columns in the query that will be reported. If dont include the DCLGEN of a table that you are using you will get return code 4 in the precompile.

hi!
as far my knowledge is concern, dclgen is used to define host variable.
and they are included in working storage section in cobol pgm while
processing sql queries.
