Hi all...
We specified the the followin while creating base index limit 5, NOEMPTY and SCRATCH.
We created a new GDG by specifying the generation number as (+5), (+5) and (+1), by submitting the program one after the other.
Thus we could create GDGs
G0005V00
G0010V00
G0011V00
In the next step, we run the same program as follows, ESCUB11.VDS.G0002V00 and ESCUB11.VDS.G0001V00 one by one.
Thus we had
G0001V00
G0002V00
G0005V00
G0010V00
G0011V00
Then we created G9999V00 by specifying ESCUB11.VDS.G9999V00. Now instead of deleting G0005V00, which is the oldest, G0001V00 was deleted.
Can anyone please tell the logic behind this and internal working of deletion and creation of a generation.....??????? |

As I understand it , IDCAMS uses the GDG number (g0001) to determine the oldest and newest datasets in the group and NOT the date/time they were actually created.
Thus if you go messing around with these numbers you will not get the intended benefits.
Generally one would create the next in the group (+1) and refer to it or others created prior (0) (-1) etc.
Bearing that in mind, I'm still trying to figure why you would want to do what you are indicating! |
