Hi,

I have few queries regarding teh VSAM tuning parameters.

For calculation the Index Buffers in some manuals its been given as

Processing mode :DIR

BUFND= 2 buffer

BUFNI = No of Index set records + No RPL Strings.
No of INdex set records = No of index records - No of sequence set
records
In my understanding for each CA a sequence set would be there and all the CA's index would be present in a single iNdex.Does this is termed as INdex set record / Index record?? Also how many index sets would be there for a typical VSAM file?

No of seq set recors = No of data CA

Now my doubt is

1. what is this RPL string? is it a constant value? or it would be varied with diffrenent VSAM file to file?Using LISTCAT can I access RPL strings value?

In some r manual's its stated as if BLSR buffer is used RPL string value is 16 which made me think that its a constant value..If so what would be the value of RPL string for NSR and LSR buffering scenarios?

2.What is the difference between INdex set record and INdex records.
and how I can get that values? (from the above calculation)

I used LISTCAT against the cluster to get a bunch of info but was not able to clearly make out which belongs to what as it contains HURBA,HARBA and CA,CI,CISZ values for both INdeax and Cluster..

Any help in this regard would be highly appreaciated..

Thanks

Tricker.

1) Request Parameter List.
A control block which defines an input/output operation to be performed on a VSAM file. (IE it is in the program accessing the VSAM file, not within the VSAM file itself)

2) The Sequence set is the bottom level of the INDEX and the Index set comprises the records in the Levels above that ultimately point down to the sequence set.

I'm not sure if you are able to work out the exact number of Index Set records though.
