I have a Cobol PGM whose output is a report which contains several Dataset Names ???..
1.xx.xx.xx.xx
2.xx.xx.xx.xx1
3.xx.xx.xx.xx2

Now I want to pass these Dataset names to JCL (JCl is for compression) as Input??..one by one??.
In short evertime I want to change SYSIN of my JCL.
Can I do this, if Yes How ?

Simple. The output of the program needs to write the report to a dataset. The step in the JCL needs to read that dataset for it's SYSIN input.

Thanks.

Okay, I have an output Dataset which contains different file names.......now how these file names will go as an input to JCl or to be more precise how they will go as SYSIN for my JCL.

What my JCL does is , it will take one file as input, compress it and then 2nd as inout and so on.

Please let me know if more clarifications are needed on my requirement.

Thanks.

It seems as if your job needs to pull the first record from the input dataset, pass that to the compresion step as input, then either delete that record or mark it as being done. Then, the next run of the same job would use the next record from the input dataset. This would continue until there are no more records to process.

I would think that it would make the whole process a bit easier if the list of datasets was created as a PDS, with one member for each dataset. Then, you can submit the compression job once for each member of the input PDS.

Thanks SuperK.

You mean to say.... One PDS will contain One member , 2nd PDS will contain 2nd member....and so on, right ?

Okay, now my main concern is, how the member names will go as an input to my JCL and do I need to submit job as many times as number of PDS ?

Once more, I will xplain...... I want to automate the compression process. Our endevor report produces a weekly report which contains dataset name, usage etc. On the basis of usage we need to compress the dataset.
We have been doing this manually till now.

I have compression job ready the only concern in how variable SYSIN DD name can I code in JCL.

Could you let me the pseudo code for the JCL ?

Thanks.
