Hi All,
I have joined a new project 2 days back at Onsite and the Database is IMS
I have worked with DB2, Datacom, VSAM, CICS but never with IMS DB/DC
Not sure which part of my profile looked IMS.
To make it worse I am at the CLients location so no one around to train or give any sort of documents.
I went thru 3/4 of the posts in these forum and also read the links provided for IMS Docs.
Thanks a Lot for all the info,
I think with that help I will survive the batch hassels
but IMS/DC , the onlines. everytime I select the IMST option on my TPX menu I just stare at it, I dont know where we need to put the transactions etc, also I dont know how to come out of it.
I understand the basic parameters for connecting Pgm to IMS for DB& DC
but still couldn't undertsand how the Sequential reading will process. the levels & segments
All you guys, plz send me some documents that you all might have used to start off , i cant get them on net, some porjects must be having.
any help is appreciated.
Thanks a lot |

No Need to worry..
Just type /Test MFS and type your transaction name in that screen.
You will be able to invoke that trxn. |

Can't understand how could ur company put you onsite even if you dont know what is parent, child n segment reading...
Well, to start with you'll have to identify first what exactly you are looking for... IMS/DC (Online part) or DB (Database part)... and nature of your work...

I dont know where we need to put the transactions etc |
Clear Screen... put transaction name & press Enter...

also I dont know how to come out of it. |
Clear Screen, type /rcl and press Enter...

I'll try to go in very basic terminology here... There is something, we know as CALLs.... which read IMS DB...
GU--- Get Unique.... while making GU, you pass some key value to IMS DB, and retrieve other values corresponding to that key value.
GN--- Get Next.... It reads next segment no need to pass values...
GNP... Get Next within Parentage... means it'll read the child segment in Next...
I dun think I can cover every thing here..... go thru ur IMS stuff and come up with specific questions.... and dont try to go in deep as of now..... get the basic understanding first.... God Bless You.... |

I am sure IMS is not the only Qualification to be onsite. they didn't put me onsite, they hired me at onsite and I don't know why they have put me in IMS project. may be 'coz I was with BCBS for couple of yrs. the current project is also healthcare. well good for me, I have worked with DB2/Datacom/VSAM and now I can excel in IMS. .
The Tools/Utilities in IBM Mainframes makes life much easier.
Fileaid/IMS and online tools made it easy to understand the parent/child/segment concept. I ran a test JCL to confirm the theory. looks good
Thank you once again |
