what is HEX ON?

what is HEX ON? CAN ANYONE CLARIFY THIS?

hex on is the command used to see the hex equivalent of data.
this is spceifically used to in case of data that is defined as packed decimal or binary, in such cases one cannot see the values of the field directly as they are in the compressed format, however if you need to see the hex values then use the command HEX ON.
then u can see the Hex equivalent n interpret the data.
