Hi,
If we dont use the datasets it might go to the migration status. If we look at the dataset in 3.4 volume will be shown as "MIGRAT2". Can anyone explain what exactly happening here?

Datasets which are not used for more than seven days( i.e Backups taken for the batch) will be migrated to Tape.

We cannot use the details as such. It has to be recalled.

There can be virtual backups or real backups. Real backups is the one where we can find TIMBER in the JCL. Rest we find it as Tape.

Thanks,
Diwakar

In many of the mainframe systems, an option is usually set to migrate the datasets when the dataset has not been accessed within a span of certain number of days. When this happens, the datasets which have not been accessed are moved from DASD to TAPE. This is something to archiving. If the user need to access it he can select the dataset for Browse/View/Edit and the dataset will be recalled from TAPE to DASD for access. This recall is done in foreground. If you do not want it to be done in foreground then you can type HRECALL beside the dataset and the recall will be done in background

You can also use the TSO command HRECOVER 'DATA SET NAME' NEWNAME so that u can get the copy of recovered dataset in your personal dataset where newname will be name of your personal dataset
