Are you referring to control cards?
Did you find some datasets like HLQ1.HLQ2.CTL in your system and this prompted your query?

For example JCL:

//*-------------------------------------------------------------------*
//* OMIT ACTIVES *
//*-------------------------------------------------------------------*
//STEP006 EXEC PGM=ICEMAN,COND=(0,NE)
//SYSOUT DD SYSOUT=P
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=P
//SORTIN DD DSN=&&TRANSMIS,DISP=(OLD,DELETE)
//SORTOUT DD DSN=WX.SQ.LIN.AFIL,DISP=SHR
//SORTWK01 DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1),RLSE)
//SORTWK02 DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1),RLSE)
//SORTWK03 DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1),RLSE)
//SORTWK04 DD UNIT=SYSDA,SPACE=(CYL,(2,1),RLSE)
//SYSIN DD
DSN=SYS1.CTL(WXTTYT24),DISP=SHR
//*

It's this SYS1.CTL(WXTTYT24)
********************************
SORT FIELDS=COPY
OMIT COND=(41,11,CH,EQ,C'11011124562',OR,
41,11,CH,EQ,C'12065478923')

>>>WXTTYT24 is CTL whats acronym CTL? or what is ?

I don't think CTL is a "formal" acronym. I think people just use it (or CNTL) as an abbreviated version of "control" as in "control statements". In the example you show, SYS1.CTL has members containing DFSORT control statements.
