I suggest to add a small signature below everyones nickname to allow them to declare if they have some specialization or Certifications in any area.
This way when we see a reply to one of our questions, we know how credible is that person's response. |

Hmmm ... I don't have a certification in DFSORT/ICETOOL or anything else, but I think my responses on that subject are pretty credible. Having been a developer for 35+ years and never being certified in anything, I'd have to question the whole idea of certification = credibility. Do they even have certification for most areas of mainframe expertise? |

Ofcourse not. Certification is definitely not = credibility, but it definitely adds something to it.
My suggestion is not limited to certification only. Anything that lets other have an idea of proficiency. "35+ yrs exprience" is itself a good example of what sort of message/flag I am looking at. Another good example is the "specialities" line I see in your signature.
I have a feeling some people are posting replies either to increase the count, or just for the fun of it. This suggestion was oriented towards finding more ways to filter these people's answers from valid answers. |

I suspect that anyone who was posting replies to increase the count or just for fun would not be above listing phony "credentials" in their signature line. I understand what you're trying to accomplish, but the cynic in me tells me that such a scheme won't work. And as you pointed out, we can already put such information in our signature lines if we want to. |

I concur. I also don't possess any special certifications or credentials, heck, I don't even have a degree. I have repeatedly, usually via private messages, told posters that they bear the responsibility of validating the responses to their questions. Did you, the poster, post your question clearly and with as much information as needed, to elicit an accurate and proper response? Did the responder provide documentation (if available) to back-up their answer? Do you normally take answers to a question at face value?
One of the most valuable assets that an individual who desires to be successful in an IT career should possess is the ability to weed out fact from opinion, half-truths, conjecture, and all-out lies. They need to possess this capability regardless of their technical aptitude or area of expertise. |
