Does anyone know if an IMS GSAM database can be a GDG when not using VSAM? |

hi hal2001,
i dont understand your part of question 'when not using VSAM'?
as far as i know, we don't ( or can't) use VSAM files for IMS instead of GSAM file. we use GSAM file which are flat files unlike a VSAM CLUSTER.
kindly clarify me.

The physical access method that is used by GSAM depends on the type of dataset the application program has defined. If the programs is coded to access a sequential dataset, then I believe BSAM is used, but if the application is coded to access a VSAM ESDS then GAMS would use the VSAM access method.
In my question, I was trying to say that the GDG for my GSAM database would be a flat sequential file and not a VSAM ESDS. I'm trying to better understand how using a GDG would impact the JCL if a restart were needed and the GSAM database was being used as output.
Normally, you would code the (+1) for the GDG and then DISP=(NEW, CATLG,CATLG). What changes in the JCL for the Restart of a program that uses a GSAM database as an output dataset? |
